FreeCell

All cards face up. Use four free cells to untangle the columns.

How to play

Move all cards to the four foundations, building each suit up from Ace to King.

On the tableau, build down in alternating colours. Any card may fill an empty column.

Each of the four free cells holds a single card.

You may move several cards at once as a sequence; the number is limited by the free cells and empty columns you have.

The game ends when you win, when no move is possible, or after a long time without progress.

About FreeCell

FreeCell is a solitaire where every card is face up from the start, so winning is about planning rather than luck. You build four foundations from Ace to King and use four free cells, each holding a single card, to untangle the tableau. Nearly every deal can be won with careful play.

Tips for FreeCell

  • Before your first move, find where the aces and twos are buried and plan how to dig to them.
  • Keep your free cells empty as long as you can: each empty cell and empty column lets you move longer sequences.
  • An empty column is worth more than a free cell, so think hard before using one as a parking spot.

Questions about FreeCell

How many people can play FreeCell?

FreeCell is a one-player game: you play alone against the deck, and your game is saved so you can come back to it.

Can I get help in FreeCell?

Does FreeCell have difficulty settings?

No, FreeCell has a single standard rule set. The difficulty comes from the deal, and each new deal is shuffled fresh.
