Hearts

Avoid hearts and the Queen of Spades; low score wins.

How to play

Four players. Each hand starts by passing three cards (left, right, across, then no pass).

The player with the 2 of clubs leads it. You must follow suit if you can; no points on the first trick unless forced.

Hearts cannot be led until a heart has been played. Each heart is 1 point, the Queen of Spades 13.

Taking all 26 points ("shooting the moon") gives everyone else 26 instead. The game ends when a player reaches the target; lowest score wins.

About Hearts

Hearts is a four-player trick-taking game where you want to avoid points. Each heart is worth one point and the Queen of Spades is worth thirteen, and the lowest score wins. Every hand starts by passing three cards, and a player who takes all 26 points "shoots the moon" and scores zero while everyone else takes 26.

Tips for Hearts

  • Pass your dangerous high spades (Queen, King, Ace) unless you hold plenty of low spades to protect them.
  • Keep low cards in every suit so you can duck under tricks instead of being forced to take them.
  • Watch for a moon shot: if one player is collecting every heart, take a point on purpose to stop them.

Questions about Hearts

How many people can play Hearts?

Hearts is played by exactly 4 players. Real players and bots can share a table, so a game can always start even if you do not have enough people.

Can I play Hearts against the computer?

Yes. Pick easy, medium or hard bots and start straight away. Bots only use what a player in their seat could see, so they cannot peek at your cards.

Can I play Hearts online with friends?

Yes. Create a private room and share its code, or join a quick match. If someone drops out mid-game, a bot takes over their seat.
